Perfect Day at CocoCay

Perfect Day at CocoCay: The Complete Guide to Royal Caribbean’s Private Island

If your Royal Caribbean cruise has a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, you’re in for one of the best beach days of your life — and I don’t say that lightly.

Perfect Day at CocoCay is Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, and calling it a “beach day” almost undersells it. We’re talking 13 waterslides including the tallest in North America, the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, an adults-only beach club, overwater cabanas, a helium balloon that takes you 450 feet above the island, and multiple beaches with free loungers and crystal-clear water.

Oh, and a big chunk of it is included with your cruise fare.

As a cruise travel agent based in Central Florida who books CocoCay sailings regularly, here’s everything you need to know to plan the perfect day on the island — what’s free, what’s worth paying for, and how to get the most out of every hour you’re there.

A quick note on pricing: Royal Caribbean uses dynamic pricing for all CocoCay add-ons. The prices mentioned in this article reflect typical ranges as of 2026 — always check your Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner for current pricing on your specific sailing.

What Is Perfect Day at CocoCay?

Perfect Day at CocoCay is Royal Caribbean’s exclusive private island located in the Berry Islands of the Bahamas, about 55 miles northwest of Nassau. The island covers 125 acres and is accessible only by Royal Caribbean cruise ship — there are no public docks, no airport, and no other way to get there. The only permanent residents are Royal Caribbean employees.

Royal Caribbean completely transformed the island in 2019 — adding a large dock that can accommodate two ships simultaneously, eliminating the need for tendering. If you’ve heard older stories about slow tender rides to CocoCay, that’s ancient history. You walk straight off the gangway and onto the island.

Once you’re ashore, a free tram service loops the island continuously. You can walk or ride — most areas are accessible either way.

What’s Included Free With Your Cruise Fare

Before we get into the paid upgrades, let’s talk about what you get for nothing extra — because it’s genuinely impressive.

Free with your cruise fare:

  • Access to all beaches — Chill Island Beach, South Beach, and Harbor Beach
  • Free lounge chairs and umbrellas at all beaches
  • Oasis Lagoon — the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, with a swim-up bar
  • Complimentary lockers throughout the island
  • Free tram service around the island
  • Skipper’s Grill and Chill Grill — free buffet-style dining
  • Snack Shack — burgers, hot dogs, and beach snacks
  • Snorkeling right off Chill Island Beach — no rental required if you bring your own gear

That’s a full beach day for zero extra spend. Plenty of cruisers never pay a dollar beyond their fare and have a fantastic time. Know that going in.

The Beaches

Chill Island Beach The most popular free beach on the island — soft white sand, calm and clear water, and one of the best spots for snorkeling right off the shore. There’s a shipwreck with cannons just offshore that makes for excellent snorkeling. Get here early on busy port days — the chairs fill up fast. The same applies to the Oasis Lagoon — loungers and storage areas fill up quickly. If you can’t get there early, late afternoon when families start heading back to the ship is your second window.

South Beach More activity-focused than Chill Island. Volleyball, basketball, paddleball, kayaking and paddleboarding (rentals available). If you want a beach with more going on around you, South Beach is your spot. Still free, still beautiful.

Harbor Beach Located near the dock — convenient if you want to stay close to the ship or if you’re on a shorter port day. More sheltered than the other beaches.

Travel agent tip: On days when two ships are in port simultaneously, CocoCay can feel busy — especially by midday. If the free beaches are your plan, get off the ship early. The island feels completely different at 8am versus noon.

Oasis Lagoon — The Pool That Earns Its Name

The Oasis Lagoon is the centerpiece of Perfect Day at CocoCay and one of the first things you’ll see when you arrive. It’s the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean — a sprawling lagoon with a gradual entry on one side, a swim-up bar in the middle, and quieter coves tucked around the edges for anyone who wants to escape the crowd.

Your onboard drink package works at the swim-up bar. That alone makes this pool worth a stop even if you spend most of your day at the beach.

One note: the Oasis Lagoon is not heated. In winter months the water can be on the chilly side — plan accordingly.

Thrill Waterpark — For the Adrenaline Seekers

The Thrill Waterpark is Perfect Day at CocoCay’s paid attraction — a fully gated waterpark with 13 slides, a wave pool, and a dedicated kids splash zone. It is a separate ticket purchase and is not included in your cruise fare.

The headline attraction is Daredevil’s Peak — the tallest waterslide in North America at 135 feet. It is exactly what it sounds like. You go very fast and you scream.

Beyond Daredevil’s Peak the park has multi-rider raft slides, a massive wave pool, body slides, and a dedicated Splashaway Bay kids area for families with younger children.

Is the Thrill Waterpark worth it?

For thrill-seekers and families with kids who love waterparks — yes, absolutely. It’s a full-day activity and genuinely impressive. For relaxation-focused cruisers or anyone who just wants a beach day — skip it and spend the day at Oasis Lagoon and the beaches for free.

Pricing: Typically runs $75 and above per person. Sales do happen and can bring the price lower, but don’t count on it — budget for the full price and treat a sale as a bonus. The park does sell out on busy port days so book through the Cruise Planner before you board.

Up, Up & Away Balloon Ride and Zip Line

Two more paid experiences worth knowing about:

Up, Up & Away — a tethered helium balloon that takes you and up to 11 other guests 450 feet above the island. The views of the Bahamas from up there are genuinely spectacular — you can see the entire island, both ships in dock, and the turquoise water stretching in every direction. A memorable experience, especially for first-time visitors.

The Zip Line — a 1,600-foot course with three sections that takes you over the island at height. Good combination with the balloon ride if you want a perspective-from-above kind of day.

Both experiences book up on busy port days. Add them to your Cruise Planner before you board.

Hideaway Beach — The Adults-Only Option

Opened in January 2024 alongside the launch of Icon of the Seas, Hideaway Beach is CocoCay’s adults-only (18+) beach club — a separate, gated section of the island accessible by a dedicated tram from the main arrival area.

The vibe here is best described as a Vegas beach club experience — lively, music-forward, crowd-optional depending on where you position yourself. It can accommodate up to 1,800 guests, so “adults-only” doesn’t necessarily mean quiet. What it does mean is no children, a swim-up bar, a large infinity pool, and a dedicated beach area away from the main island crowds.

What’s included with a Hideaway Beach day pass:

  • Full day access to the beach and pool areas
  • Plenty of free loungers on the beach
  • Access to the Hideaway Hut — upgraded food options including coconut shrimp, ceviche, and fish sandwiches beyond the standard free island fare
  • Use of your onboard drink package at the bars

Pricing: Highly dynamic — ranges from approximately $37 during flash sales to $100+ on high-demand sailings. The average tends to run around $55–$60 per person. Book early through the Cruise Planner for the best price.

Hideaway Beach cabanas are available for groups up to 8, ranging from approximately $900–$1,700 depending on location and demand.

Is Hideaway Beach worth it?

Honest answer: it depends what you’re paying. At $40–$60 per person for a couple who wants a kid-free atmosphere and a better pool experience — yes, it’s worth it. At $90+ per person, the value gets harder to justify when the free beaches are genuinely beautiful and South Beach has its own relaxed atmosphere.

If you mainly want to avoid children and have a quieter pool — Hideaway delivers. If you want a premium luxury beach experience, the next section is what you’re really looking for.

Coco Beach Club — The Premium Experience

This is where Perfect Day at CocoCay shifts from a great beach day to something genuinely special.

The Coco Beach Club is CocoCay’s premium beach club — a different category of experience from anything else on the island. Where the rest of CocoCay is high-energy and family-oriented, the Beach Club is refined, relaxed, and designed for guests who want the best of what a private island can offer.

What’s included with a Coco Beach Club day pass:

  • Access to a private, secluded beach area separate from the main island
  • An infinity pool overlooking the ocean — the only infinity pool on CocoCay
  • A complimentary sit-down lunch with a dedicated menu that is a meaningful step above the free island dining
  • Premium lounge chairs and towel service
  • Full use of your onboard drink package

Pricing: The Beach Club uses dynamic pricing. MSRP runs from $149–$274 but the pass is on sale the vast majority of the time — average pricing tends to run around $100–$143 per person when booked in advance. Book as early as possible through the Cruise Planner for the best price.

The Overwater Cabanas

If you want to take the Coco Beach Club experience to its highest level, the overwater cabanas are in a category of their own.

These are private, over-the-water structures with direct ocean views, in-water loungers, shaded seating, ceiling fans, lockable storage, and charging outlets. They accommodate up to 8 guests and include a dedicated cabana attendant.

The most exclusive option is The Hideout — a private infinity plunge pool reserved exclusively for Hideout cabana guests, with in-water loungers, bottle service availability, and resort-level personal service. It is the closest thing to a private island resort experience available at CocoCay.

Cabana pricing: Beach cabanas typically range from $749–$1,699. The Hideout cabanas range from $1,699–$2,699 depending on the sailing. For a group of 6–8 splitting the cost, the per-person value becomes much more reasonable.

Is the Coco Beach Club worth it?

For couples, honeymooners, anniversary sailings, or anyone who wants a genuinely upscale beach day — yes. The infinity pool alone is worth the premium over the free options, and the included lunch is a meaningful upgrade. At the average sale price of around $100–$143 per person, booked early, the Beach Club delivers a resort experience that justifies every dollar.

For large family groups where the per-person cost multiplies quickly — the free beaches are excellent and the savings are significant.

Dining at Perfect Day at CocoCay

Free dining:

  • Skipper’s Grill — burgers, grilled chicken, hot dogs
  • Chill Grill — similar casual island fare
  • Snack Shack — quick bites throughout the day

Paid/included dining:

  • Coco Beach Club Restaurant — sit-down lunch included with Beach Club day pass
  • Hideaway Hut — upgraded food at Hideaway Beach, included with day pass

Travel agent tip: The free dining is fine for a beach day — don’t expect restaurant quality, but you won’t go hungry. If food matters to you, the Coco Beach Club lunch is genuinely worth factoring into your decision when weighing the day pass cost.

Travel Agent Tips — How to Get the Most Out of Perfect Day at CocoCay

Book everything before you board. Royal Caribbean uses dynamic pricing for all Perfect Day at CocoCay add-ons through the Cruise Planner. Prices are almost always lower when booked in advance compared to purchasing on the island. The Thrill Waterpark and Coco Beach Club in particular sell out on busy port days.

Watch for sale events. Royal Caribbean runs their best CocoCay discounts around specific holidays — Labor Day, Memorial Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday are the most reliable sale windows, with discounts of 30–40% not unusual. Occasional flash sales pop up throughout the year as well. If you’ve already booked at a higher price and a sale comes along, you can cancel and rebook at the lower price. Set a reminder on your phone for those holiday weekends and check your Cruise Planner — it’s one of the easiest ways to save real money on your CocoCay day.

More CocoCay Tips

Get off the ship early. On days when two ships are in port — which happens regularly — the island fills up by mid-morning. The best chairs, the quietest beaches, and the shortest lines at everything are in the first two hours after the gangway opens.

Towels are available on the island. There are towel booths throughout CocoCay — they’ll take your cabin number when you borrow one. Just make sure you return them before heading back to the ship.

Leave valuables and your passport on the ship. All you need on CocoCay is your SeaPass card. Leave your passport in the cabin safe, leave jewelry and expensive electronics behind. CocoCay is a controlled private island — but theft can happen anywhere there are crowds. Bad actors find their way into secure environments. Traveling light is always the right call.

No personal Bluetooth speakers. As of 2025, Royal Caribbean banned personal Bluetooth speakers at CocoCay. Security may confiscate them at the gangway. Leave yours on the ship.

Your drink package works ashore. If you have an onboard drink package, it applies at all CocoCay bars including the Oasis Lagoon swim-up bar and the Hideaway Beach bars. This is one of the best perks of having a package on a CocoCay sailing.

Perfect Day at CocoCay — My Honest Verdict

For families with kids who love waterparks: Book the Thrill Waterpark. It’s the right call and they’ll talk about Daredevil’s Peak for years.

For relaxation-focused cruisers: Skip the paid upgrades entirely. The free beaches and Oasis Lagoon are genuinely excellent and cost nothing beyond your fare.

For couples or adults who want a quieter atmosphere: Hideaway Beach at $55–$60 per person is solid value if you book early and catch a reasonable price.

For honeymooners, anniversary couples, or anyone who wants the premium experience: Coco Beach Club — and if budget allows, an overwater cabana. This is the version of CocoCay that doesn’t feel like a cruise stop. It feels like a private resort.

For thrill-seekers of any age: Combine the Thrill Waterpark with the balloon ride and zip line for a full-day adrenaline itinerary that’s hard to match anywhere in the Caribbean.

Whatever version of Perfect Day at CocoCay you choose — it’s going to be a good day. This island earned its name.

Travel safe. Travel light. Enjoy every wave.
