Royal Beach Club Santorini: The Complete Guide to Royal Caribbean’s Greek Island Beach Club

If you’ve cruised the Greek Islands before, you already know the Santorini problem. Royal Beach Club Santorini opened on April 27, 2026 as Europe’s first Royal Beach Club — and it doesn’t just give you a great beach day, it reorganizes your entire time on the island so the logistics work for you instead of against you. Tendering in, navigating two ports, fighting the cable car line, figuring out transportation to Oia, getting back in time — it’s a lot of moving pieces for what should be a relaxing day.

As a retired NYPD officer and cruise travel specialist, I pay attention to how destinations manage crowds, access, and safety. Santorini has historically been one of the most chaotic cruise ports in the Mediterranean. What Royal Caribbean has done here is genuinely smart — and I’ll walk you through everything you need to know before you book.

What Is Royal Beach Club Santorini?

Royal Beach Club Santorini is an exclusive beach club located in the Vlychada area on the southern coast of Santorini, Greece. It sits on a secluded stretch of volcanic black sand beach along the Aegean Sea, nestled between dramatic volcanic mountains and the water — completely removed from the crowds of the caldera zone in the north.

This is not a newly constructed resort. Royal Caribbean renovated and reimagined an existing beach club on the site, upgrading it with premium amenities while keeping the authentic Greek character of the location intact. The result feels like it belongs on the island — a natural setting framed by rugged cliffs, open sky, and the Aegean stretching out in front of you.

Royal Beach Club Santorini is open to Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea guests. Local Greek residents can also purchase tickets at the door on days when a Royal Caribbean Group ship is in port, based on availability.

For the most current excursion availability and pricing, visit the Royal Beach Club Santorini page on Royal Caribbean’s website.

Santorini Is a Tender Port — Here’s What That Means for You

Before getting into the beach club itself, it’s worth understanding how Santorini works as a port — because it’s different from most stops on a Mediterranean itinerary.

Santorini does not have a cruise ship dock. Your ship anchors in the caldera, and all passengers reach the island via tender boats. There are two ports: Athinios Port (the New Port) on the southern coast, which is the only port accessible by road, and the Old Port of Fira, which connects to the town above via a cable car or 588-step staircase.

Guests who book the Ultimate Santorini Day excursion through Royal Caribbean tender directly to Athinios Port, where buses are waiting to transport them to their first stop. This is a significant advantage — you skip the cable car line entirely and get on your way immediately.

One important update as of June 2026: Santorini implemented new rules reducing the share of passengers allowed to disembark at Athinios Port from 40% to 30%, pushing more independent travelers to the Old Port. This makes the Royal Caribbean excursion even more valuable — your Athinios tender access is secured through the cruise line and isn’t affected by the independent traveler cap.

Santorini also enforces an 8,000-passenger-per-day limit across all cruise ships, and Greece charges a cruise passenger port fee that is billed to your onboard account. Factor that into your budget when planning.

The Ultimate Santorini Day — How It Works

Royal Beach Club Santorini is the centerpiece of a shore excursion called the Ultimate Santorini Day. This is a structured, all-transportation-included day that combines the beach club with time in two of Santorini’s most iconic towns — Oia and Fira.

Every tour option gives you exactly 3.5 hours at the beach club, 90 minutes in Oia, and 75 minutes in Fira. What varies is the order. There are three departure times to choose from when booking through the Royal Caribbean app, each with a different sequence:

  • Tour 1 — First Departure: Beach Club → Oia → Fira
  • Tour 1 — Second Departure: Oia → Beach Club → Fira
  • Tour 1 — Third Departure: Oia → Fira → Beach Club

All three tours include round-trip bus transportation from Athinios Port to each stop and back. The full day runs approximately 8 hours.

Two specialty tour options are also available for sailings after June 1, 2026:

  • Tour 2 — Ultimate Santorini Day + Wine Tasting
  • Tour 3 — Ultimate Santorini Day + Olive Oil Tasting

And for guests who want the beach club without the island tour:

  • Tour 4 — Royal Beach Club Santorini Only: 3 hours at the beach club, no town stops

Insider Tip: If maximizing beach time is the priority, the third departure puts the beach club last — you finish the day relaxing on the sand instead of rushing back from a village. If sightseeing matters more and you want the beach club as a reward at the end, that sequencing also works perfectly. The beach club only option (Tour 4) is ideal for guests who’ve already seen Oia and Fira on a previous sailing and just want the beach day.

Independent Santorini Shore Excursion Options

Prefer to explore Santorini independently? The Skip Cable Car Santorini Shore Excursion with Boat Transfers is one of the top-rated options for cruise passengers — boat pickup from the tender point, no cable car wait, and back to the ship on time. Prefer a small group land tour? The Santorini Small-Group Shore Excursion covers Oia, Fira, and Megalochori with a maximum of 19 guests and timing built around your ship’s schedule. Or get out on the water with the Santorini Sailing Cruise to Red Beach and Akrotiri — a catamaran excursion covering the island’s volcanic coastline, Red Beach, and the ancient Minoan ruins.

The Royal Beach Club Santorini Beach — What to Expect

The setting is unlike anything else in Royal Caribbean’s private destination portfolio. The beach club sits on a narrow stretch of volcanic black sand with the Aegean Sea in front and dramatic volcanic mountains rising behind it on both sides. It’s a natural amphitheater — secluded, striking, and completely removed from the tourist crowds to the north.

The main building has a thatched-roof structure housing the buffet, bar, and dining areas. A glassed-in restaurant section sits adjacent to it. Padded loungers line the beach under umbrellas, facing the water. The atmosphere is calm and unhurried — Mediterranean lounge music from the DJ booth, not a Caribbean party scene.

A dedicated smoking section is located to the side of the main beach area for guests who need it.

The food is a genuine highlight. The Greek buffet is freshly prepared and authentic — gyros, souvlaki, spanakopita, Greek salad, seasonal dishes. Food trucks featuring local favorites are also on site as of June 2026. Every review from early guests highlights the food quality and the service as standout elements of the experience.

Insider Tip: The volcanic black sand gets extremely hot in direct midday sun — this is not soft Caribbean sand. Wooden walkways run throughout the club to help with this, and foot-washing stations are available. Pack lightweight water shoes for women or water shoes for men that drain quickly and grip well on wet volcanic rock. A waterproof phone and document holder is also worth bringing to keep your phone, cards, and cash dry and secure while you’re on the beach or in the water. This is the single most practical thing you can do to improve your day.

Royal Beach Club Santorini Food and Drinks

Everything at the buffet is included in the price of your excursion. The hot and cold buffet runs all day, with rotating Greek dishes, fresh fruit, and the frozen yogurt station available throughout your time at the club. The all-day grab-and-go station provides quick bites and coffee between main buffet service hours.

Included beverages cover draft beer, house wine, canned soda, coffee, and the hydration water station. A complimentary welcome drink greets you on arrival.

Bottled beer, specialty cocktails, and premium coffee are available at the Bar & Coffee Station for additional purchase by credit card (Visa and Mastercard only — no SeaPass, no American Express, no Discover).

If you have dietary restrictions or specific needs, the official RC documentation notes that with at least 48 hours notice to the Shore Excursions desk, they will do their best to accommodate select dietary requests.

A Safety Perspective on Royal Beach Club Santorini

Santorini has a strong safety reputation as a destination — Greece overall is a safe country for tourists, and the island is well-policed during the busy cruise season. That said, a few things are worth knowing before you go.

The tender and timing situation. Missing your return bus to Athinios means you’re on your own to get back to the port — and tender cutoff times on cruise ships are not flexible. The RC excursion buses run on a set schedule. Know your departure time, build in a buffer, and don’t cut it close. If you’re in Oia or Fira and lose track of time, you could miss the bus and face a significant logistical problem getting back independently.

The heat. Summer temperatures in Santorini regularly push well above 90°F, and the volcanic black sand holds that heat. The wooden walkways at the beach club help, but stay hydrated throughout the day. The hydration water station is complimentary — use it. Guests with heat sensitivity or mobility concerns should plan beach time for the later afternoon when temperatures begin to drop.

What to Watch Out For On and Off the Beach

The water. The Aegean is beautiful and clear, but it gets deep quickly off this beach. Families with young children should stay closer to shore and supervise closely.

Accessibility. This excursion is not recommended for guests with physical limitations. The tour involves significant walking on uneven and hilly terrain in Oia and Fira, and Royal Caribbean does not currently have wheelchair-accessible tenders or a sufficient supply of accessible tour buses for this excursion. Guests with mobility concerns should review the accessibility details carefully before booking.

Pickpocketing in Oia and Fira. Both towns are extremely busy tourist areas in summer. Keep bags closed and secure, and carry wallets in front pockets. This is standard advice for any high-traffic European tourist destination — the risk is low but real in peak season crowds.

Credit cards on site. Only Visa and Mastercard are accepted for additional purchases at the beach club. American Express, Discover, and UnionPay are not accepted. Bring the right card if you plan to purchase beyond what’s included.

Royal Beach Club Santorini Booking Tips From a Travel Agent

Book your Ultimate Santorini Day excursion as soon as your cruise planner opens — these sell out. Unlike Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, which operates with structured day passes and cabanas, Santorini runs on excursion slots with limited capacity per departure time. Early booking is not optional advice — it’s essential.

Tour 4 (Beach Club Only) and the specialty tours (Wine Tasting, Olive Oil Tasting) are available for sailings arriving after June 1, 2026. Book through the Royal Caribbean app or My Royal Cruise.

When and How to Book

Watch for Royal Caribbean’s periodic shore excursion sales — Wave Season (January–March), Black Friday, and occasional flash sales in the cruise planner can bring prices down meaningfully. Check your cruise planner regularly after booking your sailing.

The beach club operates daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ships visiting Santorini are drawn from Voyager Class through Quantum Class — check your specific ship’s itinerary for confirmation that Santorini is included and that the excursion is available for your sailing.

Before your Santorini port day, if your itinerary also includes Nassau, make sure you’ve read our complete guide to Royal Beach Club Paradise Island. And if you want to understand how Royal Caribbean’s private destination model started, our guide to Perfect Day at CocoCay covers the flagship private island that set the standard for everything that followed.

Travel safe. Enjoy every port.
